..because we are starting our oil painting unit! My teacher scrapped the printing and watercolor unit in favor of an 8 week oil painting unit (or so she says!). We just finished some color studies in class and I can't wait to start painting (although I imagine I will be very very fustrated once I actually start haha).
I got off my couch to finish a new piece, in case you missed it. It's basically the only thing productive I accomplished during Spring Break, so take it at face value. =]
I really want to learn how to use oils. I took and advanced art class this year to get instruction on painting, but it looks like it's not going to happen. I thought we were going to have an oil painting unit, but now we have a mixed media/identity unit and next I think we're doing prints. We just finished pen and ink.
I feel like I'm never going to be profficient in painting. And I can't even take painting next year because I haven't taken Drawing and Painting I (they don't even paint in the first year!!) and so can't use the painting in Drawing and Painting II.
So this is when I want to move back to Virginia, because I was going to learn how to use oils this year if I hadn't moved back to Missouri (looong story, but I moved around a lot the last two years). Some people tell me I should be glad I haven't used oils yet, as it gets ALL OVER but I feel like I just need the experience.
Why can't I buy some oils on my own? I don't even have brushes, a palette, or canvas. I don't know what kind of canvas to get (does it even make a difference?) and yeah, I am too... I dunno... something...to look it up online.
So I'm just complaining here.

Oh yeah, I'll be scanning in a couple things later on in the week, so expect to see the pen and ink drawing here soon!
